Our Story

01·The Idea

You get home, and the day comes in with you. An Aroma Stick is a simple signal that it’s over: temple flowers, herbs and honey, hand-rolled on a coconut-leaf midrib. Light one as you walk in, and give it ten minutes.

Udupi Sugandha’s Aroma Sticks bring a ten-minute pause to the end of the day, in two aromas, Lavancha and Pacche Kadiru, for the space you come home to.

02·Heritage

A habit Udupi’shomes have keptfor generations

Udupi Sugandha Aroma Sticks are made with the herbs Udupi’s households have long burned to freshen a room, rolled by hand with honey and flowers offered at Udupi’s temples.

  1. Lavancha roots

  2. Gently smoked

  3. The room freshened

Dhoopana

The Udupi name for herbal smoke. In Udupi, households have long burned lavancha (vetiver) and other herbs to freshen a room, a habit passed down through generations.

Two aromas · One ritual

Aroma

Lavancha

The calm lies in the roots.

Also known as vetiver, lavancha keeps its scent in its roots: damp red earth, cool roots, a little smoke.

Pacche Kadiru (Indian patchouli) in flower, lilac blossoms among green leaves

Aroma

Pacche Kadiru

Like the forest floor after rain.

The Kannada name for Indian patchouli, a leafy herb from the mint family: forest floor after rain, wet moss, a hint of camphor.
