Vetiver keeps its scent in its roots, not its flowers. These sticks smell of damp red earth and cool roots, with a soft smoky edge. Light one in the evening, and the room still smells of it two hours later.

Good to know.

Lavancha grows in Karnataka’s red soil, and its fragrance is all in the roots. In Udupi homes it has long been burned with other herbs to freshen a room, a practice called dhoopana.

We make each stick at our unit in Navunda village. The women there mix lavancha with honey and flowers collected from 800+ temples like Kolluru Mookambike Temple, then roll it by hand onto a coconut-leaf midrib. The sticks dry in the sun for 5 days before they’re tied with jute and boxed.

The box

The sticks come in a Channapatna lacquerware box, made by artisans in Channapatna and GI-tagged. A matching holder keeps each stick at 45°. When the sticks are finished, the box stays: for keys, jewellery, or the next refill.

  1. Hold a flame to the tip for a few seconds, then blow it out gently.
  2. Rest the stick in the holder at 45°, on a heat-safe surface.
  3. Let it burn for about ten minutes. Keep a window slightly open.
  4. The scent stays in the room for up to two hours.

Never leave a lit stick unattended. Keep it away from children, pets, curtains and paper. Don’t burn it in a closed room or near anyone with asthma or breathing trouble. If a stick goes out early, relight it from the tip.

Free shipping across India. We dispatch from Udupi in 2–3 working days and send tracking by email and WhatsApp.

The sticks are handmade and consumable, so we can’t take returns for change of mind. If your box arrives damaged or you get the wrong item, write to us within 48 hours of delivery with a photo or unboxing video. We’ll replace it or refund you, and we pay for any return. Full policy →

Wipe with a dry cloth. Keep it away from water and direct sun, which can dull the lacquer. Small differences in grain and colour are part of the handwork, not defects.

Is it smoke-free?
No. It gives a thin line of smoke for about ten minutes. It has no charcoal.
How many sticks, and how long will they last?
30 per box: about a month at one a day.
Can I buy just the sticks?
Not yet. Refill packs arrive in December 2026.
Where do the temple flowers come from?
From the temples of Udupi, which we work with officially, including Kollur Sri Mookambika Devi Temple, Mandarthi Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple and Udupi Sri Krishna Matha. Flowers that adorned the deity are collected daily, dried at Navunda and blended into the sticks.
Is the box really Channapatna?
Yes. It’s made by artisans in Channapatna and carries the GI tag for Channapatna toys and lacquerware.
Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. Add a gift note at checkout. For 10 or more boxes, see bulk gifting. Bulk gifting →
